More than $2.6 million earmarked for the preservation of a historic Montgomery County site was authorized by the Montgomery County commissioners.

The Grist Mill, situated at the Schwenksville-based Sunrise Mill, will undergo a series of construction undertakings made possible by the seven-figure allocation.

Domus Construction, of Glenside, was awarded a $2,303,021 general construction contract and S&S Electrical Services Inc., of Warrington, Bucks County, was awarded a $298,695 electrical construction contract, according to the agreement awarded during the June 6 Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting.

The project’s encompasses “stabilization and prevention” efforts, the contract states. Work on the property is expected to include repairing and replacing mill machinery, timber framing, concrete, and masonry.

While the request for proposal was initially viewed by 49 companies, representatives from the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure endorsed the Glenside and Warrington firms, respectively as “the lowest responsible bidders all in strict accordance with the specifications.”

The seven-figure allotment was folded into a nine-item contract package totaling more than $4 million. Also authorized by the county commissioners last week was another item related to Sunrise Mill.

A $441,741 agreement covered the installation of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system in the farmhouse at the mill’s visitor center. The six-figure funds were extended to two providers to fulfill mechanical and electrical contracting needs, according to county officials.

Moxie Mechanical LLC, of Glen Mills, Delaware County, was awarded a $259,000 agreement and S&S Electrical Services Inc., of Warrington, was awarded a $182,741 contract.

The project’s scope is slated to include removing existing equipment and installing the new system “to control temperature and humidity, removal and replacement of the hot water boiler, and upgrade the corresponding electric service,” the contract states.

The previously advertised request for proposals received 19 views from area companies. Additional mechanical contracting applicants included Brothers Comfort Services, of Ambler, with a $476,000 bid, as well as Hirschberg Mechanical, of Willow Grove, with a $409,900 bid.

Additionally, the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety will continue its law enforcement records management system services after amending an existing agreement with Computer Square Inc., of Keasbey, New Jersey, designating $409,550.

Representatives from the county’s public safety agency endorsed entering “to the sixth available contract renewal term for support and maintenance of the system.” While the initial terms were set at $302,550, the county officials required another $107,000 to incorporate the “Victim Witness Notification Suite into the county’s records management system for use by the District Attorney’s Office.”

The next Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27 on the eighth floor of One Montgomery Plaza, 425 Swede St., Norristown. Those interested in attending the meeting can also do so virtually. Visit montgomerycountypa.gov for more information.
