A 26-year-old Pottstown man is facing a misdemeanor DUI charge and additional summary offenses of speeding, failure to stop after damaging property, and failure to notify police of an accident following a hit-and-run incident in Trappe Borough in April.
Omar Vasquez, Pennsylvania State Police allege, fell asleep behind the wheel of his 2000 Honda Civic Del Sol while intoxicated at 5 a.m. April 28 on westbound West Main Street, resulting in a crash.
Then, Vasquez fled the scene on foot, police said, in the area of Cherry Avenue.
During a canvass of the area, Vasquez was found walking in a nearby parking lot, heading toward an address listed on his vehicle’s registration, police said. When interviewed, Vasquez had no visible physical injuries, but reported minor head and left leg pain, per the affidavit.
Vasquez refused medical treatment and said he was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Authorities allege Vasquez had signs of impairment and admitted to drinking before driving. Police took him into custody for DUI and bloodwork for BAC content was drawn at Phoenixville Hospital, per the complaint.
Then, Vasquez was sent home in an Uber.
Police said blood samples confirmed a presence of alcohol, but did not release the results.
A preliminary hearing for Vasquez is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
No arraignment or bail information was available on the court docket.
