A 32-year-old man that was hit head-on in a crash in Worcester Township by a juvenile driver last month has been charged with DUI.
Pennsylvania State Police said officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on June 7 at 10:15 p.m. at West Township Line and North Whitehall roads involving the Accord and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 17-year-old from Lansdale.
Police said the 17-year-old became distracted after dropping his phone on the floor of the truck and failed to yield at a yellow light, as he was traveling westbound on West Township Line Road. He drove the Silverado through the intersection, despite the traffic light being red, police said, and collided with the Accord.
The Silverado continued westbound, veered off the left side of the road into a curb and a grassy area, and came to rest facing southwest, per the complaint. The Accord spun 180 degrees and came to rest at a 45-degree angle facing northeast, police said.
Both cars sustained severe front-end damage and were towed from the crash scene, police said.
While interviewing the drivers after the crash, police said the 32-year-old Norristown man behind the wheel of the vehicle that was hit displayed multiple signs of alcohol impairment and was subsequently arrested for DUI without incident, according to the criminal complaint.
The man was taken to Pennsylvania State Police Skippack for processing and was released, police said.
A 17-year-old male passenger from Norristown was also in the Silverado, police said. The teenager driver was cited for failure to yield to a flashing signal, police said.
There were no injuries in the crash. Both drivers and the passenger were wearing seatbelts, police said.
East Norriton Township Police, Norriton Fire Engine Co., and Center Square Towing assisted at the scene.
