This past week, the community of Lower Providence took some time out to remember a local hero. It has been a decade since the township’s police department lost one of their own, and the department took to social media to remember a friend and co-worker.
Lower Providence Township Police Officer Mark Wells, who passed away 10 years ago this week, was remembered by the township on Facebook with a post on Aug. 27. Wells, who was raised in the township, also graduated from Methacton High School. He served Lower Providence with 25 years with the police department, first starting out as a dispatcher and later moving into a police officer role.
Wells was previously a recipient of the department’s Medal of Valor, as well as numerous letters of commendation. He is “gone but not forgotten,” the department’s post read.
Wells family chimed in to thank the department for remembering this fallen first responder.
“Thank you for remembering my brother,” said Nancy Wells Krombach in response to the department’s post. “I remember that day like it was yesterday. Thank you for all you did to try to comfort us, and to feed us.”
While the Wells Family was shattered by the news, they have appreciated all that those at the department, the township, and of course family and friends have done to help them all to heal.
“Our family was devastated and changed forever,” said Krombach. “[I] miss him on the daily.”
Wells’ own wife, with whom he’d shared 23 years of marriage with during his life, thanked the department, as well, on the Facebook post with a comment.
“Thank you for remembering Mark today,” she said, denoting her comment with a small blue heart.
Wells was 45 when he passed away. Living in Schwenksville, he was the son Frances and Russell J. Wells Sr. He left behind one daughter, Meghan. He’d served as a Lower Providence Volunteer Fire Company firefighter, as well as a volunteer with Lower Providence Ambulance.
The community continues to mourn the loss of a man who served it so well for so long.
