Terrell S. Allen, 39, thought it was a good idea to put on a black mask and a Batman hat and rob the AT&T store in Collegeville of $34,000 in iPhones two years ago.
He did not count on authorities using GPS tracking devices in the phones to track him and find him hiding in a basement in Upper Merion.
Now, Allen awaits sentencing after pleading guilty Thursday to felony robbery by taking property by force, according to The Mercury, facing up to 7 years in prison.
Allen robbed the AT&T store on Second Avenue in Collegeville on Nov. 28, 2022, per the report.
Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Risa Vetri Ferman wants a background investigation on Allen and a drug, alcohol and mental health evaluation before sentencing him.
According to The Mercury, Collegeville Police were dispatched to the AT&T store on the 300 block of Second Avenue for a robbery in progress.
An employee told police that a man, wearing a black mask and a Batman hat, entered the store, asked for a prepaid phone that was in a store safe, followed the employee to the safe and forced him to the ground, per the article.
Then, implying he had a gun and threatening to kill the employee, Allen forced the victim to fill a bag with 37 iPhones, valued at $34,000, police said.
GPS tracking led police to the 300 block of Hilltop Drive, where Allen was found hiding in an apartment basement, per the report.
A search of his car found 37 iPhones, a baseball cap with a Batman logo, a black mask, and a coat, police said.
DNA found on the mask matched Allen, police said.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
