As you fill your fall calendars, consider adding a hands-on workshop at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center in Pennsburg. You can make a sgraffito plate, weave an apple picking basket, or enjoy a quilt turning, but you need to sign up soon. The deadline to sign up for the sgraffito pottery workshop is September 14. To be held from 10am to 3:30pm on Saturday, September 21, Denise Wilz will lead you in making a 7" or 10" plate. Sgraffito is a Pennsylvania German decorative technique of scratching into redware. The fee is $60 plus a material fee of $36 for a 7" plate and $48 for a 10" plate.
September 15 is the early bird registration of $35 for a quilt turning on Saturday, October 19. Popular quilt detective Barbara Garrett will share her insights into quilts in the Heritage Center collection that have not been on view before. Seatings are at 10am or 1:30pm. These turnings fill up fast, so act now!
The basketweaving workshop on September 28 runs from 9am to 3pm. Karen Wychock returns to lead us in weaving a traditional 8" or 10" apple basket. The fee is $60 plus a material fee of $40.
The Heritage Center at 105 Seminary Street is the regional history center for the Upper Perkiomen Valley. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1 to 4pm with free admission to visit exhibits. For more information on upcoming programs and exhibits, visit schwenkfelder.org.
