A Norristown man was charged with multiple felony drug possession offenses by Montgomery County Detectives after he pulled out multiple bags of what police allege to be cocaine from his underwear during a search at Mongomery County jail on Eagleville Road in Lower Providence Township.

Eric Lamond Handy Jr., 31, of the 800 block of Swede Street, was charged Tuesday with two counts of felony bringing a controlled substance into a correctional facility, a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, two misdemeanor counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to charging documents.

According to an affidavit, on Aug. 6, 2024, police were assigned to a contraband and narcotics investigation at Montgomery County Correctional Facility at 9:52 p.m.

Police said Handy was brought into the correctional facility, and while being searched, he whispered to an officer, “I have a little weed on me.”

Handy reached into the front of his underwear and brought out a labeled Ziploc-brand package with suspected marijuana, police said. Police again asked Handy to hand over all contraband he had on him, at which time, police said, Handy reached into the front of his underwear again and recovered 10 blue baggies and 31 pink baggies containing suspected cocaine, per the complaint.

Handy Jr. remains at Montgomery County jail in lieu of 10% of $100,000 cash, per court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
