Pennsylvania State Police at Skippack have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Lansdale man on felony gun charges stemming from a traffic stop in Limerick Township where police said he was driving a truck with a fraudulent Texas license plate and in possession of a stolen handgun.
On July 22, police released information that a warrant has been issued for Salim Akbar, 36, on numerous felony gun charges after being stopped May 24, 2024 on U.S. Route 422 East.
Akbar is charged with felony counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, receiving stolen property, possession a firearm with an altered manufacturer number, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, according to court records. Akbar is also facing misdemeanor charges of use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, and summary offense of invalid inspection, driving a vehicle without a valid inspection, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Akbar is represented by attorney Thomas Egan of Norristown.
According to a state police public information release, on May 24, 2024, at 5:45 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police conducted a stop on a gray Dodge Magnum with a counterfeit Texas registration.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police said indicators of criminal activity were present and a search warrant was applied for, and the vehicle was eventually towed.
Police said a search of the vehicle revealed a stolen Sig Sauer pistol with the serial number scraped off, as well as numerous illicit narcotics and packaging materials.
