Prom season may sound like a far-away dream when we’re just about to kick off the fall Back-to-School routine. But, the Methacton High School Post Prom organizers aren’t wasting any time. They’ve already begun a multitude of fundraising events to ensure the 2025 after party is a big success.
Lead organizer for this year’s Post Prom, Susan Washburn, said there is no time to waste. The elaborate event, while largely fueled by the community and parents, requires a decent amount of funding to pull off each year.
To get the ball rolling, the team opted for a very colorful start for the 2024-25 school year. Seniors who are lucky enough to have a parking spot at the high school have the opportunity to spruce it up. Parents, friends, and family may paint the students’ space for the cost of $35.
This is the first year for the paint-a-space program, and parents will be providing the supply and design. In previous years, similar concepts were done in a chalk design, that of course, washed away with the first rain.
“Most of the seniors know,” said Washburn. “They want to be involved in the painting and design.”
The paintings can largely be about anything the student decides, though of course there will be some rules.
“There can be no cursing, politics, gangs, drugs, or violence,” said Washburn, for the rather obvious reasons. “All designs must be approved by the district prior to painting.”
The funds raised from the painting activity will go toward the food and entertainment costs of the Post Prom event. The spaces will remain painted all year-round, and in the spring, be wiped away.
“Spaces will be paved over at the end of the year,” explained Washburn. “Part of the $35 fee will be used for that, and the remainder donated to post prom.”
Painting days will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Senior Parking Lot at Methacton High School.
