Woman swindled out of thousands in check altering scheme

A 47-year-old Skippack Township woman has been swindled out of thousands of dollars by a check altering scheme.

Pennsylvania State Police said a resident of Daniel Drive arrived at the Skippack barracks on July 25 at 1:06 p.m. to report a theft of a check.

Police said the victim mailed a check for property taxes in her residential mailbox on or around July 9.

Later, the victim found that the check was altered and cashed for $3,151.48 by an unknown person.

Call Pennsylvania State Police at 610-584-1250 with any information on the theft.
