You might be hard-pressed to find a little girl that, at some point while growing up, didn’t want to be a princess.* Whether they played dress-up with tiaras and frilly dresses, or simply used those young, vivid imaginations to play pretend, yearning to be a princess seems a rather common part of childhood.

(*Editor’s note: I was, in fact, once a little girl. And, when anyone asked me what princess I’d want to be, I always picked Maleficent. And, yes, she is still my favorite. I can’t help it. I love a good villain, and besides, no story is complete without one!)

What wouldn’t a young girl give to have those same beautiful princesses be a guest at her next big birthday party? Well, those fantasies can come alive today with the help of Your Part Time Princess, LLC.

Shawn DeSantis, MBA, is owner of this thriving Montgomery County business that offers to be that magical “fairy godmother” with her specialty visits. With the wave of her magic wand, OK and some hard work and elbow grease, she is able to bring the fairy tale directly to area children.

DeSanits can attend any party or special event dressed, made-up, and completely in the persona of the selected royalty. From Lewis Carroll’s Alice, straight out of Wonderland, Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, Your Part Time Princess aims to please with a wide variety of storybook heroes.

Packages for her visits come in 30-, 60- and 90-minute stays. And the princess doesn’t just attend as a guest. Each visit can include features such as a princess sing-a-long, a group game, a story time, photo time, and even an official princess certificate. Lengthier parties may add additional enjoyment, such as a face-painting session or coronation of the birthday child.

DeSantis started the fantasy role in 2018.

“I started Your Part Time Princess in 2018 with the intention of bringing the experience of a lifetime to children as they encounter their favorite princess for a birthday or special event visit,” said DeSantis. “What started out as a creative ‘side hustle’ has blossomed into entrepreneurship and expansion!”

DeSantis, who got her undergraduate degree at Gwynedd Mercy University, right in Lower Gwynedd, has turned her background of communications into a career.

“As a natural creative with a background in performance, I decided to take my love of business and the arts to create Your Part Time Princess, LLC,” she said. “I was originally studying performance but decided to make a switch and pursue my education in the Communications field at Gwynedd Mercy University. During this time, I started my company to stay involved in my theatrical roots.”

After GMU, DeSantis went on to receive her master’s in business administration in Strategic Management and Leadership just last year. After six years in the “princess business,” DeSantis still aims to make young children’s dreams come true.

“It is my hope to bring the experience of a lifetime to children,” she said, who added she loves “helping parents make dreams come true for their little ones.”

“I hope to help families and kids create memories that last a lifetime, to experience joy and kindness for a birthday or special event visit,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis, who is now located in Skippack, said she doesn’t play “favorites” with the multitude of characters she can become.

“I actually don’t have a favorite princess,” she said. “I just like to go with whichever princess is requested.”

The business owner, who is also the star princess herself, feels that it is the long-shared, handed-down stories that accompany each fairytale princesses that are what matter most.

“I admire that each fairytale story enkindles courage, being true to yourself, and seeing the best in others,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis said she can try to do any princess that the party requires.

“We offer almost all fairytale princesses, fairies, mermaids, dolls” that are requested.

In addition to fun interactions with party guests, packages can also include fairy hair options, dress-up crown and wands, and even poolside visits. DeSantis said, not matter the party, no matter the princess, she truly loves her work.

“It is honestly the most rewarding work to be around children,” she said. “They are like a glimpse of heaven.”

In addition to her fulltime entrepreneurial efforts on the princess front, DeSantis also offers her skills in the form of consultation.

“My other company, DeSantis By DeSign, offers social media and digital marketing management for small businesses and organizations,” she said, who also has a small career in modeling.

This year, DeSantis’ business also can now boast “award-winning” among her accolades.

“This year, we were voted the Best Children’s Party Entertainment on the Montco Happening List,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis and Your Part Time Princess serves the entire Montgomery County region, as well as surrounding areas. Depending on travel distance, additional surcharges may be added for transportation. For a quote for your next party or special event, visit the Booking Inquiry page here.
